In considering the apparent paradox of creating a Community Hub for Innovation within a Heritage building, we looked to the Age of Enlightenment, and sought to create a building that opened to the sky, allowing for natural daylight, and natural ventilation.. a place for people to exchange ideas and work together, a place for constant change. These were in fact the principles we observed in the original Boot Factory building, which was built in 1892, before electricity. We have only sought to enhance them with the design of this new roof over this top floor space, the Cloud Room.
